Any feedback on Rob Hearne Photography would be appreciated.

I'm aware that the Contact and Information panels still need jazzing up - they're very bland and crappy looking but I'll be getting around to that soon!

Viewing it using Firefox, res of 1024x768

a. Got some horizontal scrolling
b. When I click "Music" in the menu - I lose visibility of the other menu options. Even re-clicking the Music link, I had hoped it would close the sub-menu

Any reason why the flash direction?

Other then that, some nice photos.

I agree with you about the horizontal scrolling. It was something I brought up with the designer a while back and he had a rationale for it - something to do with the size of the photos I think, but I'm not entirely sure.

I also agree about the menu. The submenus are controlled by the client but I'll definitely put a toggle on the top-level buttons so that the menu collapses again when it's clicked.

Regarding Flash - well personally I feel that Flash is the perfect tool for this kind of site. Photography sites, band sites, etc. - most media-rich sites are pretty much what Flash was made for.

Totally agree with the last part - flash is always good for media rich websites and this photography site would be one - and a good start for it was the existence of lots of content. Nothing worse then a barren flash website with little or no content

That said, what about SEO - interesting to hear how would people get around the spidering issue of a flash website

I haven't really given it much thought to be honest. Much like accessibility - they both take a back seat if I decide that I am, in fact, going to build something totally in Flash. If SEO and accessibility were considerations, I'd have done the site in HTML. Having said this, the experience would be s**t and there wouldn't really be a whole lot of content to spider anyway. Just the taxonomy of categories/sub-categories. I appreciate that this attitude might anger a lot of SEO's but... well... I don't care.

To showcase Rob's photography in an impressive way really. It was a small nixer done for next-to-nothing so we discussed specific requirements at a very high level. He wanted something to make his photography look good online basically.

It's linked to from other sites, his URL is all over his business cards, etc. SEO isn't the only way to promote your site.

There's absolutely no need to turn this into an SEO lecture. I'm fairly well versed in SEO as well as accessibility, etc. In this instance though, just like a site I'm currently building for a rock band, I have chosen to overlook them in favour of impact and user experience.
