Arrow something.ie - would love feedback

hi all,

Something.ie is in kinda beta right now but we are keen to launch properly within the next few weeks.
In the mean time we'd love any feedback on the site.

Please, this is not a self promotion gig, we genuinly would love people to use the site and let us know what they love or hate. Good or bad, all comments welcome but most interested in (especially bad, things you dont like, stuff not working, etc.)

For those intersted, it's a blend of Wordpress mu, BBPress and some homegrown hacks. The idea is to give free blogs to people and especially community based clubs and groups and pull it all together into local community websites.

cheers,

Brian

sounds like a great idea for a site !
  • is it my eyes or is the bottom line very hard to read here ?
  • in fact Something.ie Ireland Jobs is very hard to read the text. Also the title should reflect the page a little more...
  • META tags should be expanded, description & keywords
  • I would update the favicon.ico to fit the colour scheme of your site
all the best.

The bottom line of the logo is illegible

What's the site's USP?

thanks to everyone who responded so quickly.

the logo & slogan as well as the top banner are in the process of being redesigned. We new they were lacking but your comments have helped reinforce that. I'll post the comps here when ready.

As for USP, at first I thought this was some sort of legal policy we should have but after a quick google I'm guessing its our unique selling proposition.

If it's legal stuff, then thats all with the solicitor for now and will be published hopefully in the next two weeks.

If its selling proposition, then it runs a little like this.

Almost everything on the site is free, including free tech support for bloggers, free classifieds, etc.

The only thing that is not free is the business directory. A Listing will cost €10 per month for a full web page with images, etc.

We were very aware that this is just one of dozens of directory sites in Ireland and that getting punters would be very difficult so are taking a slightly different approach to those that went before us.

We enable non-profit organisations, clubs, societies, etc. to sell business listings in their own locality as a means of fund raising and we split the revenue with them. What gets them intersted is the fact that it will be recurring revenue.

So far we have 6 organisations lined up to take on 9 different areas in Cork. 2 Well known charities, 2 community organisations a gaa club and a rugby club.
Because it's local people selling to local business owners we are hopefull that the uptake will be good.

Please keep the comments coming, they are most helpful.

cheers,
Brian

My only comment is that I think it's going to be hard to grow a site like this. I've messed around quite a lot with broad, catch-all kind of websites, and I've found being specific or focusing on a niche gives better results.

I do wish you success with it though.

Do you have much of a marketing budget?

Default second glance...

Many thanks to all of you who gave us youor feedback first time round.
We've taken the comments on the chin and fixed things up based on your reccommendations.

Again, we'd love to see some feedback from anyone with a few minutes to spare. Feel free to create groups / blogs or anything else.
