Default Hotelsinone

Hi,

I would appreciate some feedback on our Hotel booking site Find Hotel Reservations-Hotels Offers-Hotel Deals in Ireland | Hotelsinone.ie . We have been up for around 4 months or so and have around 120 Hotels online now. We have just started a redesign of the site and I would love some feedback on the current look and what you like or do not like. All comments all welcome I just have to point out I don’t have a €1m in the bank to go mad on the new look. The guy you will see on the site is Ned. He is going to be fronting the site when we get fully going on Sales & Marketing. Again like him or not let me know.

p.s

Thanks to Michele we know we have a problem with the Calendar on fire fox which we will now look into.

Thanks.

Pat.

I quite like the look of the site.

Some quick suggestions would be:
- use a compressed version of Jquery, it will speed up the loading of the site.
- As you're already using Jquery, you could use their Date plugin (UI/Datepicker - jQuery JavaScript Library). This is a cross-browser calendar.
- There are a huge number of validation warnings on the homepage, fixing them may help it work in different browsers.
- The Search Form on the left of the homepage looks unbalanced. Some of the labels are above the form elements, some on the same line. I think some consistency in it would look better.
- On the Specials page, adding more padding to the tables showing dates and prices would make the tables less cluttered.

Thanks for this. It will make more sense to the site webmaster then me. We have a meeting in the morning on the new look so all this helps.

Many thanks for the heads up on the calendar. The issue with Firefox and Safari has been resolved.

I was on the look out for a new calendar, the jquery pluggin looks brilliant, so thanks davkell.

The site is getting a full makeover, in the next few weeks. So all comments (bad and good) are very welcome and will be used to enhance the eyes on the other side of the Internet.

One issue that I would appreciate feedback from is the Thickbox (where the user selects book now, or clicks a price). What do people think of this method to displaying the information as opposed to a typical booking page?

Thanks for all your efforts.

The thickbox didn't work the first time I tried it with Firefox - it brought me to a new page.

Whether it works as a way of displaying info depends on how used to seeing it your users are (for example, will they use the back button to get out of it?). Personally, I don't like them...but that's just my opinion

There are a few other things you probably need to take a look at with Firefox , such as links having the default blue underline on the Specials page.

Why isn't the logo a link back to the main page?

It's quite slow to load, so I'd see it as a barrier rather than an aid.

You are obviously polling Google maps, but when I click on the location tab I have to click again to view the Google map information, which strikes me as an odd design choice
