Add an about page or at least a video tutorial or something because i don't have a notion what your site is about

Is this another million dollar homepage rip off? If it is then that idea has being done to death.

the category names on the pop outs could do with being a big bigger/ more distinguishable. the bottom 3 categories on the left hand side open out to beyond my screen width ie i cant see them. i like the black background but would like to see it if it was white, it might do the 'star' menu buttons more justice. overall, i like. agree with rollo though, idea is a bit stagnant by now. i got the idea of what your trying to do pretty quickly but the rule still applies that if a viewer cant tell what your sites about in the first few critical seconds then its a site wasted.

Make the logo clickable. I really don't have the patience to go looking for a link back to the home page.

It's not at all clear what the site is about.

I think I worked it out after a minute or so, but your average punter won't stay around long enough to find out

Too colourful. Some SQL errors as well. Get it check out properly. The onMouseOver is too much. I know it looks nice but slows down the page and it blocks you sometimes from clicking on any of the links.

As a casual user I would see it as a fun site. I'd spend a while playing with it but would be unlikely to return. I certainly wouldn't use it as a resource.

As an investor I would take the above into account and would not be likely to fork out. I presume the idea is that I would get my logo on the category page?

It's colourful. It's a bit confusing. The popups are necessary but irritating.

Wow factor? 9/10 but only for about two seconds.

Ok, so the site is somewhat similar to the million pixels idea, I am aware of this and agree that those type of sites are on their death bed. My aim was to take the basic idea and evolve it into a site that is actually useful to the average joe (i.e. a web directory). It's early days yet but will be adding user logins so that you may create a custom homepage with 100 of the 9700 links the site holds. I was planning on making the logo an anchor to your custom page, but I suppose it would be no harm to have it link to the homepage in the meantime.

The black background was specifically chosen due to the fact that nearly 40% of the sites we visited during the research phase had a coloured logo on a white background. The white on white lacked impact so we decided to change the background to black. Thanks for the suggestion though.

As for Sql errors, could you please be more specific? I have been tweaking the code over the last few days so probably made a mistake somewhere that I haven't spotted yet.

And finally, the pop-ups... Slightly annoying I'll agree, but unfortunately I have to put the descriptions somewhere! You'll find that there's a knack to navigating so that the boxes don't get in the way. The key is to avoid the arrow pointing to the category image. There shouldn't be boxes popping up beyond the edge of the screen... I assume you're using a css2 compliant browser? Also the site is not really designed for screens less than 1024 pixels wide. We were going to include a resolution detection script and provide smaller images for lower resolution screens but we got kinda lazy. Maybe we'll include them later, don't hold your breath.

Websites shouldn't need a "knack". If people have to learn a special technique to navigate a webpage then they are really going to be put off. Especially as they are going to have to discover this "knack" for themselves, as I doubt you intend to put up an explanitory text?

Fair point... I'll see what I can do with it. Have you any suggestions? I have to retain some sort of 'bridge' between the category image and the pop-up box as the category sponsor logo will appear within the box. Without the bridge no-one will be able to click on the sponsor's link.

are you going to 'assume' that all users are going to have a css2 compliant browser? and are you going to assume all users are going to have the same thought process as you in figuring out how to use your site. why would you spend so much time developing something that you have no interest in presenting to all users?
