do ye do any print advertising ?

I also find it hilarious that people will spend 500 - 2k on adverts in a paper or similar ... yet not spend on a website which has the potential to generate a LOT more revenue than a once off print advert.

nope...we have little flyers that we print at the office. money really is a kind of big issue.

start up..I've been here 2 months....its been running since August last year. Boss has just started another company...online radio station ...that is getting the funding/marketing/events attention. NOT online marketing. offline.

mod_rewrite is actually a pretty big subject

and quite difficult to just sum up like that ... at least for me.

Basically mod rewrite good .. do it ... do it ...

It means more keywords in your url ... which google likes to see ...
Its more human readable as well ... take a look at Safari Club - African Safaris for example .. now wihtout mod rewrite it'd all be index.php?id=22 blah blah blah ...

Going to try and get the boss to have a look at the design, we don't have any designers...but maybe I can figure something out.

Update btw: boss won't put a British flag, but we are making a plan about the moving and flashing of the testimonials and blog pic. I will get the new coder to see if he can make the site better to look at for more screen resolutions, I know the previous guy did it with the main resolution in mind. Translations are being done, have to find someone to do the Spanish.

3 of our keywords have lower ranking, one is better and one stayed the same since the site was launched last Friday. Useless info maybe . There is stressing.

There is one thing I am trying to do as well. The testimonials and pics show up first in the code when you view source...this is how Google sees it yes? So the new coder is going to make sure the proper content with the keywords gets seen first (absolute positioning or some such...I really need to learn PHP). Maybe this will help with the ranking.

Good idea or bad idea? I really feel a bit lost now because I was kind of sure the site would get better ranking because the coding and copy was so bad before. It has improved mightily. Except for the testimonials coming up first in the code.

it takes time for listings to change ... to get reindexed and so on... it doesn't just happen like that (though sometimes it does ... confused I know I am)

I was also thing about the design.

I look at other English school and their design IS professional etc. And then I see ours...and while it is a bit messy...its more...welcoming. Or less institutional. And I think people could be more inclined towards that. I would be anyway. It needs to be cleaned up a bit of course.

ok I just had an argument with my boss and I need someone to clarify something.

On the site, we have the moving testimonials and the rotating pictures. Both were done with the idea of constantly updating the site. The thing is that because there are so many pictures, the load time is slower. So I want to get rid of them moving and make them static (he brought it up because he doesn't want some of the pictures pointing out, so I suggested making them static to the way he wants them...and then we got onto the argument). Because big load time = bad for SEO and PPC, and the testimonials are still there doing the updating. (which I'm thinking now..is it actually constantly updating as the bots would read it. it just looks like its updating but is it really because it reads from files not from a feed...duh!!!!).

Anyway his point was: isn't it better to have 2 things doing the same time? like having a keyword show up. (I disagreed in this instance because it is related to the load time)

so help. because he makes a valid point...but the load time is related to it. different perspective please.
