Default How many of you guys work from Home?

Just out of curiosity..
Do you find it difficult working from home, would you prefer to be working in a rented office space?

Hi Cormac, I work from home and have no problem with it, once I got myself into the routine. When I first started working from home I used to get up late in the day and work late into the night. It just didn't feel healthy that way. I now get up before 8 and am at my desk ready to work before 9. I try my best to finish at 6 too, but with some tight deadlines that can be hard.
When it comes to meeting clients, I usually meet them locally. I don't like the idea of them coming to my house as from previous experience they then call on you without warning and take up a lot of time.

I love working from home and I've a dedicated office here with a proper office set up so it doesn't feel like 'home'. Over the years a lot of my clients have offered me office space (in some very nice places in Dublin - Donnybrook, Rathgar, Merrion Square!!) in return for some regular web design work but I've always been more productive at home and thats what matters most to me.

I've been working from home for roughly seven years. Some of that was on-site for periods of up to a year and while the company was great I found the distractions were way too er, distracting

People always ask me if it's hard to be disciplined but when I'm busy my day starts at 7am and finishes around 12pm. I wouldn't rule out at some stage working in an 'office' but I don't see the point in renting when I can channel that money into more important business expenses. I noticed a long time ago too that clients don't care where you are once the work is good and done well. I make a point of calling out to them but there are a few that love to come visit the home office.

How about yourself Cormac - are you working from home and finding it a bit tough?

Best of luck. Is it close to home or will you be travelling a lot?

Peter, I suppose it helps when you have a view like this one outside your office.

No. I'm not working from home. I have recently left work though and I was just curious how many were working on home. I'm trying to catch up on projects but I'm encountering too many distractions at the moment at home.

Cool. Thats the one thing I do miss about working in town - the chance to walk or cycle and get some fresh air and time to think and read on the way to the office

I'm working from home and I find it both good and bad ...

I feel it'd be nice to work in an office with other people around but know that I hate people on the phone .. and hate people using mobile phones for personal calls during office hours.

I think you most definitely need to have an office though .. a desk won't do .. it has to be a room that you can call your office.
