Hi Everyone,
I'd like to commission some templates to be built for Open Source Software. Primarily looking at getting some Joomla templates and Wordpress templates made cheaply in India.

I'm wondering what website is best to post to for this kind of request and what I should expect to pay for something that is of decent (no perfect) quality.

Also if anyone has done this before and has any advice I'm all ears.

Its not for a client, the templates are for me to provide to the Open Source Community. I'd create them myself, but I have such little time these days to do it myself and I'm a bit of a Web Standards Perfectionist.

Also should I do a mockup in Photoshop first or just let them come up with a design concept?

Hi Gavin,

I would look into GetaFreelancer.com - I would think you should get a lot of bids for this type of project. And regarding letting them come up with a design concept, I would be careful - they could easily hack an existing template and call it their own.

You could try 99designs.com , also theres a jobs section on Joomla.org but most of the stuff you'll get are very basic designs.

Why india, if you don't mind me asking?

Well it just seems from my experience on the joomla forums or dp forums etc., most of the companies that are offering copy writing services, directory submissions etc. seem to come from India. They will do it at a very cheap rate and have good written english. There is a large amount of computer skills in this region also. Thats not to say you couldnt find someone from another country but its just its easier dealing with a large group of potential suppliers.

I'm sure they're correct, but I'm looking for someone to build cheap wordpress templates to offer to the community. I'd do them myself, but time constraints kind of make it difficult.

I would pay someone, but I'm not sure what is a reasonable price for a high quality template, not to mention I'm broke. (Story of my life).

Elance.com has a wide variety of companies all over the world. India is good (and cheap) for coding, but not design (in my experience). For that you might look at South American companies. Also, 99designs is a low cost way to get design work done.

I would do the psd file yourself and then get them to port - I have posted some stuff on getafreelanncer and the design were awful.
