Bandwidth Monitoring

Does anyone have any recommendations on network bandwidth monitoring for a linux server?

Been looking at bandwidthd and mrtg.

Cacti would be another one. I haven't seen it being used for a single server envirnoment but its worth a shot.

How many servers?

RRD Tool, MRTG, Cacti - they all work ... It depends on what you need

At the moment it's just for one server running Flash Media Server but we will end up running multiple servers in the future.

Have a look at the solutions mentioned.

The thing to be aware of is that processing the data has an overhead. So if you're pushing large amounts of traffic your bandwidth logging / processing might have a negative impact on your server's performance if you're not careful ie. keep an eye on how much of an impact it has.

Cacti and RDD Tool look good, will take a look at them over the weekend.
