Just curious to peoples opinions on this one. Which is considered better coding practise, to add classes to tags like input, img, label etc and the css in the style file or to add DIV's or SPAN's around the tags like input, img, label etc and put the class into the DIV or SPAN?

In my opinion, the less markup you have the better. Less filesize can mean less time downloading your page.
And then there's the likes of css Zen Garden: The Beauty in CSS Design which uses extra span's etc to allow for effortless page layout variations through css only.

Yep less markup = better. Cut out unnecessary divs!
