This week would be good for me ... or my relaxed week planned for next week is going to involve chasing down about 10 customers *sighs*

In the past I've just done the work done pay me now ...

I won't be doing this again unless I've a relationship with the client

Get a model and stick to it (no not .. *insert models name here* ) ... a payment model ..

1: 20 - 30 % upfront
2: 20 - 30 % on design completion
3: 20 - 30 % on design implemention
4: 20 - 30 % on sign off

Doing it right you've gotten paid 120% muahah .. but you know what I mean
figure out what works for you ... clients may not be happy but then I'd question the clients

;) - That'll be my next poll then - how much time do you spend chasing money and do you factor this into typical quotes :D ???

We ask for a deposit before any work is done about 30% or less. We then design and develop the website and provide a working online preview with full payment required before going live on the customers domain. (usually)

It's fair and prevents a lot of chasing payments.

Always 50% up front and the remaining 50% when the site goes live.

Once the site goes live I wait a few days and then send them an invoice.

After a about a week I then start chasing.

No exceptions.
