I am transferring an old static site to drupal 6 and it also has a forum attached. I am wondering if I should consider using the forum that comes as part of Drupal?

Anyone any experiences? I would also love to see any Drupal forum sites so I can see some examples.

Thanks

It's not a fantastic Forum, there's an "Advanced Forum" module on the Drupal site for Drupal 6, gives more of the regular forum features that you see about the place but i haven't used it on a live site yet so I'm not sure about it's strengths-weaknesses compared to specialist forum software.

Yeah I have only seen one so far. The community site I have right now is generally older visitors and not as web savvy as the like of these forums - so trimmed down might work quite well.

I'm using Drupal 5 Advanced forum.

I'm using Drupal 5 and Advanced forum module.

Forums | Vintage JDM

I honestly think its good enough, but I don't have a large community on this site yet, so its hard to say how hard it is to manage on a larger scale.

My thoughts are that its ok and have the forum features in most packages are useless and just clutter up the interface. I use simple machine forum on another site, but can honestly say I'd rather import all my users to a Drupal based site and will do in future (if I can understand enough about Databases).

The advanced forum module is really for improving the default styling. its changed a bit recently so I'm not using the latest build, I need to re-theme it with the changes to the new module.

You might want to check out Private forums in Drupal: Forum Access vs. Taxonomy Access vs. Taxonomy Access Control Lite | Lullabot for some forum advice - although it may not apply to Drupal 6.

Best of luck!
