new addon domain woes

Hello all
I know this should be simple for some reason it is not.

I already had a website (lets call it myoriginalsite.com with hosting.
then I bought another domain (lets call it secondwebsitename.com) as I am allowed 25 addon domains with my hosting package I figure I will just stick it on there and save myself the money on payments for hosting.

What I have done:

Created a folder on my webspace named secondwebsitename.com
created a subdomain for that folder secondwebsitename.myoriginalsite.com

so far so good I am a techy GOD

now I go to addon domains in cpanel
and i put the name of the new site in I tell it where the folder is I give it a username and password.

then I click 'add domain'

I wait 15 mins for to make sure everything is updated
I type www.secondwebsitename.com into my browser
and up pops the site as it should
I look up at the url of the site and it reads secondwebsitename.myoriginalsite.com
not www.secondwebsitename.com

I am disappointed......

www.secondwebsitename.com points to the site but then it redirects it to the secondwebsitename.myoriginalsite.com

please someone put me out of my misery and tell me that this is not the way it is supposed to work that i have done something wrong!

but it seems to have sorted itself out It must have just been that the registrar didn't update as fast as I thought it would !
