Just bring this back to the top again. I've never registered a .ie before and because of the good offer from Michele.

So if I wanted to register a domain for a pet project of mine. Let's call it ProjectX. But I am not a business, but is it possible to register projectX.ie , it's not a business name or registered trademark ?

I really don't want to go to the hassle of registering a company name with the CRO.

If projectX was clearly not for profit then you could try to get it as a discretionary name as long as the chosen name was not overly attractive

Not for profit, yes well kinda, it would have Adsense ads on it. Thanks for your quick reply !

seeing as I have your attention : How did irishwebmasterforum.com get such a high figure on Alexa so quickly ? (currently 40,129 )

Just don't mention anything about ANY form of income if you want to register it without an RBN

so it's a *wink*wink*nudge*nudge*hint*hint* deal...

On a related topic: how much does it cost to set up as a sole trader ? - just for the sake of it? - i'm talking the bare minimum - jut so that it would "exist" legally.

Maybe this thread should be split.

But once I register myself , as say "Paul Media", (so publishing sites and registering them would be in the bounds of my company) are there any other on going costs ?

I've been thinking about this again and I've been getting confused. So bare with me please.

If I wanted to buy running.ie (for a site about running) and yellowtrees.ie (for information on yellow trees in Ireland). I don't think that if I register the company name "Yellow Trees Running", I would be able to register both. This seems not to allow it
Domain Options:
  • An applicant can add words to their registered business name to form a domain name.
  • An applicant can register domain names that have a reasonable connection with their business. In this case the IEDR deems a reasonable connection to be a product or service of the registered business.
  • An abbreviation of the registered business name may be used instead of the full business name.
Would it be better to register , just "Running LTD" on it's own ?

And the only thing I get from the CRO (Companies Registrations Office) is a RBN (Registered Business Name) for 20 EUR ? And I get a piece of paper that I have to show/fax to the IEDR to register the domains.
Requirements:
  • The applicant applying under this category need only include the RBN Number in the application.

So for 40 EUR I could have Running.ie and YellowTrees.ie plus the registration & hosting costs ?

If your company / business name were "running yellow trees" you could have:

ryt.ie
yellow.ie
trees.ie
running.ie
runningtrees.ie
yellowtrees.ie
yellowrunning.ie
etc., etc

A registered business name costs €20 one time.

IE registration costs vary from around €30 to €120

Thanks Michele. Expect to be getting some phone orders from me, some time soon. I can't use your registration form as it redirects me [here].

Hi Michele,

So you do you reckon if I registered a business called "Ban Porn" or "Ban Pornography" they'd let me have porn.ie or pornography.ie ?

No.

I've been trying to get porn.ie for a lot longer than you have and I know the rules better than most.

The main issue stems from a particular rule which is yet to be removed. I'm not sure if they will remove it - other ccTLDs have similar ones.

Did anybody write a letter to iedr?

Hi all,

I am trying to register IE domain and now i need to proof my right to this domain. I am wondering if some of you have written it before. Would be great if you could submit it on this forum.

Thank you

Each application is different, so you're probably better off asking the IE reseller you're dealing with for guidance

Thinks have relaxed a lot in recent times, but the process is still dependent upon the decision of the hostmaster(s).

Simlpest proof is a CRO number or Registered Business Name number, which is fast and cost effective to get.

You can then supply those numbers to the provider
