Hi guys,
A client has a number of pages ranking quite well in the SERPS for a range of approximately 30 keywords.

However, the homepage out ranks the interior pages for certain keywords. This is obviously bad since the interior pages are better landing pages. For example the homepage might rank for the term "Orange Jumper" but there is an interior page all about orange jumpers at website.com/orange-jumper.html.

What practices can I put in place so that bots index the interior page over the homepage? The only mention on the homepage of "orange jumpers" would be a link to the website.com/orange-jumper.html page.

Hi Cormac.
There's a few things that would spring to mind:
1. Build deep incoming links to the interior page /orange-jumper.html with anchor rich text. It good to have a deep link ratio.
2. Make sure any internal links linking to the /orange-jumper.html page uses 'orange jumper' as anchor text.
3. Make sure the /orange-jumper.html page uses 'Orange Jumper' in both the Page Title and H1 tag.

Heres some advice I picked up on:

"Get some Google Adsense code.
2) Put the code on the page you want indexed
3) Go to the page in your browser and hit refresh every couple seconds or so until the Community Service ads go away and real advertisers start to appear. This usually takes around 40 or so refreshes, but it really depends.
What happened? Google Adsense does not get paid for the community ads. So they make no money until they can determine exactly what your site is about so they can display relevant ads. So when Google sees people hitting this page with Adsense that isn’t in their index it rushes its little spiders over there to find out what the page is about and spider its content quickly before Google loses more money. For efficiency sake, it uses the information to add your site to the index. This usually happens within 48 hours."

be careful on creating the anchor text. it should be the specific keyword on a specific landing page. And the page should contain keywords, keywords on your domain name, title, content etc....
