Anyone know how much it would (very roughly) cost to get a real graphic designer (not a coder) to design a website of around 15 pages. I have fuctioning site but need it to look very professional

thanks

It depends a lot on the designer, but you would probably end up paying a couple of grand

Prices

My prices are low because they don't need to be high! I believe that it is wrong to charge a business around 2000euro for a website!

Sorry about the second thing! I didn't know!

Thanks as Always,

That depends on a lot of factors:

- how long it takes to do the site
- how many meetings with clients
- office rent
- office insurance
- staff

And a lot more besides .....

2000 euro is not that much to pay for a business website if you consider how much a single print ad costs

I would consider 2000 euro too much for a website that only has few pages, cause now a days everybody is using some sort of program that does half the job by itself, then few hours just to tune it up, and other bits and bobs.

If graphics are required and it is something that requires a lot of attention and work then i would put the price up a bit.

Now it all depends on the size of it and how complicated the customer is as well.

To be honest, I designed a website for a customer in less then 2 days, with mysql database and complete back-end.
Did small logo graphic for the top of the page and the rest based o css stylesheet.
He wanted to be simple and to the point, instead of graphic heavy.

I couldn't go and charge him 2000 euro for that could i?

Well.. No! It would have to be more, ehh.. How do I place it...? You would have to include more in the package and more in the site!

But if that is what your client specifically asked for - it's perfect!

I could have drag the job for few more weeks then recalculate based on the hourly rate and get more, but sooner or later he would get another opinion from some "webmaster" and get slammered in the middle.

The way I work is based on honesty. if that's something wrong then I am sorry but that's the way I was brought up.

The thing I find about companies (incl mine) that offer development and design is that the design part doesn't tend to be as strong as the dev bit (obviously a generalisation).

What I'm looking for is design input. I'm doing a site that will be aimed at creative people and as such needs to be pretty :) I have all coding/text done but need a brand/face.

Probably only need someone to do first page so I can then nick the components for the other pages.

Looking for someone really to do what spolitchild did for armchair.ie really.

i hear what you're saying fieldcorbett,

design is indeed a speciality, and not that many companies that do design and development really excel at the design any more.

i think that all you need is a layout template though, since most sites look the same on every page these days.

that's becoming quite a common task these days - i've heard of several companies outsourcing the design work to a specialist and getting the psd file back and converting that themselves to xhtml/css. if all you need is the psd, you should be able to get what you need without breaking the bank.

afraid i only know of one good designer and she is snowed under at present, but i'd say if you rephrase your requirement to just a layout, and post it on the likes of creativeireland.com and freelanceireland.ie (seems more active recently???) you may track down the specialist you're after.
i'm sure others can recommend better resources though - are there more artistic equivalents of scriptlance etc??

it's nice, handy work for those who can get it and it will make a *big* difference to your site - happy faces all round :)

good luck!
