Hello,

We 've found your name listed for sale.

If you are still interested in seling please send your quote and I will consider it with my partners.

Main direction of our business is software development and technical support.

Domain names is not our business but a new way to earn on reselling. We are going to buy domains to resell them at higher prices since we have a large database of clients interested in good domains.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Regards,
SIMON RIVARD

I just got an email from these guys about a domain I registered last week. I asked him what was his offer, and he wanted to know a guide price, between $10k and $15k , so I replied that $12.5k would be my minimum ;).

I tried to google them but there are a few BNN's out there, and they don't list their domain name in the email. So, should I be wary of these folks ?

It might be a domain scam - the scam being to get you to pay for a valuation of your domain by some firm that they suggest.

Thanks jmcc. I was wondering what angle they would take on this. The misspelling was one hint that this was 100% kosher.

as predicted !
Paul,

Can you accept 11,500 USD?

Do you sell domain with a web site or just name?

If just name it's ok. Web site is not necessary.

Have you had your domains appraised already? Can you show me your valuation certificates? As fas I know it's a common practice to show appraisal of domain name (even without traffic and web site) before doing business.

Without appraisal I risk to overpay. In other words I won't be able to make a profit on reselling this name. It's very important for you and me to know the current market value of your domains.

Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging an appraisal company with REAL manual service. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate auto-generated appraisals. I will only accept appraisals from independent sources I trust. To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies in a forum
Domain Talk

Just check this posting.

If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. I also hope you can give me 10% - 15% discount of the appraised value.

After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations.

How do you prefer to get paid: www.escrow.com, www.PayPal.com check or wire?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply.
Personally I don't think the domain is worth that. I asked for a telephone number and he gave me something he said was a Swiss number. I'm I'm bored today I will follow this up, but I think I will leave this pass.

btw. what service would people recommend to use to sell domains securely ? SEDO ?

RE: Domain Scam

Greetings,

I've lurked around here for a while but just grabbed an addy to reply in this thread.
You guys know its a scam so here's a little about me.
All my sites are hosted in Northern Europe and the US but I see times are a' changin as far as hosting in Ireland these days. Adult content on dedicated servers seems to be the compromise reached but I digress and on to the topic in hand (*chuckle*)

Mr SIMON RIVARD would seem to have c&p an old scam from a few years ago....

Q n D from an old .txt file
Do you sell the name only without web site? I'm interested in the name so
web site is not so important.

Do you have an appraisal certificate for your domain name?

Domain name is an investment for me. In other words I'm going to sell your
name later and make a profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit
in the future. It's very important for you and me to know the current market
value of your domain.

company. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals.

Bait him and you 'should' at some stage get this:

So I offer you the following.

I set the starting price based on your appraisal. Then I find a buyer and
pay you the appraised value - 15% and earn the difference. I want to make
money without a risk.

15% discount of the appraised value is important for me to be sure in
profit.

I also don't claim exclusive rights to sell your domain. You can try to sell
your domains too.

I've already bought opt-in lists from
hXXp://www.1-bulk-email-mailing-address-list.com site to promote your
domains.
I invested about $250 in these lists. Unfortunately, I cannot list your
names with brokers and auctions because I'm not the owner. You can list
your names with brokers. We should list names with at least three-four
brokers. The more exposure the better. Moreover, using different selling
strategies we can achieve better results.

May I use your appraisal in my promotional emails?

Deal ?

P.S.
If you have other names for sale, I can try to find buyers for all of them.

Never kept the Name used. The message body is enough.

If he's cutting and pasting replies like this its a scam. I thought that it might be from the getgo, but when I went to that thread, they offered up all kinds of legit, famous appraisal services. So is this guy just a prankster trying to get us to blow 35 quid for kicks? I would have used GreatDomains or some other big name, so I don't see how he can benefit other than the chance that perhaps one of the URLS listed is owned by him (like domainsecondhand.com?) and he's luring ppl to buy his services.

Anyhow, feel free to email me ginhoi at gmail dot com if you want to exchange more information.

What is your company website ?
rivard said:
Our company works as a contractor of a large corporation in Bern,
Switzerland. We don't sell anything online, so there is no need in a web
site.

great that sounds good.

Today I ordered an evaluation of the price from SEDO.com

rivard said:
Sedo is a good broker. Unfortunately , Sedo is not acceptable as an
appraiser because your names are listed with them and they are not
independent. They are interested in earning 10% commission on every sale. I
need appraisals from a company which is not interested in
selling your domains.

I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals. So I
cannot accept appraisal from each and every site. I will only accept
appraisals from independent appraisal companies I know and trust.
me said:
What company do you suggest.

I still think it's fishy that you don't have a website , many companies that don't sell online i.e. BMW / Heathrow Airport / FBI have websites .

What is your full address and phone number ? I must say that I think you are trying to scam me a little and I don't fell comfortable dealing with someone I don't even know who you are. Maybe you can send me a picture or something like that with a message like "IWF Rulez" otherwise it's hard for me to believe you are real.
  • How much does this apprisial cost ?
  • What are you going to do with the domain, do you have a buyer in mind ?
  • What other domains have you sold in the past.
  • How Big is your company ?
  • Where is your company registered.

Yep :)

Years ago when I used to use shared hosting, if someone from the hosting company had CEO in their forum signature or at the bottom of their e-mails, I gave them a miss...
