Why .ie domain expensive?

Hi,

I guess I haven't found one place selling cheap domain but it makes me wonder why it's so expensive (anywhere from 50-70 euro) to buy new .ie domain name compared to .com or .co.uk. Does anyone know?

Register365 are doing .ie for 24.95 + vat

We're charging 19.95 ex-vat (Domain name registration Ireland, Internet Services - domain names - Blacknight Solutions)

Of course, I could have looked them up using Google but I wanted to registered with reputable guys Can you tell? I'm first time registering .ie domain.

Good price on the registration BK , If I were transferring doman reg for live sites would I suffer down time or are the DNS settings left intact during the process ?

They'd be unaffected.

The only time that there are issues is if the "losing" provider disables the dns

Actually many national domains are a way more expensive than international - thus .tv (Tuval) or .by (Belarus) cost around 40 USD per year...
