Default B2C and B2B on the same page

Hi, this is my first post at this forum so big hello to all

I'm developing a personal online business project and it needs to appeal to two groups. Group #1 provide services for Group #2. I will in turn provide services for Group #1. Everybody is happy!

In order to attract Group #1 to the site I'll have to provide content to attract Group #2, if you get me?

Question?

The content related to Group #1 will have to draw their attention immediately but will be of little interest to Group #2. I don't want to send Group #2 packing because they get the wrong impression about the site before the page has even fully loaded.

How do I appeal to both of these groups on the homepage of the website without causing confusion for either?

Any thoughts?

Hello Peter,

Welcome to the forum, the example you have above is a tad confusing. However, if I make an analogy to an online wholesale shop would this be close;

A normal customer (B2C) comes to your site, they see a catalogue of goods and services but when they login using a username and password (B2B) they see the wholesale price?

Or do you want site members to see different content to site visitors?

.

Thanks Arch-Station,

I'm being vague I know. User Group #1 (my B2B) when they become my customers will have access to secure pages via login, the other users do not need login untill later when I add a forum to the site.

What's important is that Group #1 will see that their prospects are using this site. When they recognise this they'll see the value of doing business with me. It's important that they spot my message to them on the site (particularly on the homepage) and understand that there is a means of tapping in to the traffic in the site that will benefit their business.

I know this is very poorly explained. Basically, can you appeal to two related but unique groups on the same page without alienating either group or both groups?

To me it seems like asking "How do i make the perfect advert??"

Experiment. Split the screen - do something. Try stuff - even ask your users what thay'd like to see more of, etc.

From your description you might look at recruitment sites as an example or even directory sites.
Recruitment sites need the job hunters to attract the paying employers. However they need the employers and their jobs to attract the job hunters. Catch 22.

Offer an incentive to get users and customers listed as soon as possible.

Just had a look at some recruitment sites for ..em.. inspiration!
Good point about splitting the screen (http://www.griffinpersonnel.ie).

Incentives / competitions are planned for both visitor groups (Irish Jobs - Recruitment Ireland Recruiter Services are doing this, I must fill in their survey, I've a party coming up).

Others are using tabs. Cookies record their preference for future visits which might work well for my project.

Thanks lads!
