I have varying video format and am looking to recut them, try different filters, add music, new screens, etc

What would be the best all round video editing software out there? Really just something for me to play with

There are several open source video editors available for Ubuntu that won't cost you anything.

For Windows - I'd try poking around SourceForge.net: Welcome to SourceForge.net to see what was available

Hi there,

If you're on windows there is the free Movie Maker, on the mac there is iMovie.

Both are good for getting started and playing around. You can produce some pretty cool little movies on them with sound and effects.

I got premiere pro, its ok but eats processor...and costs a bit(so i have been told)
