Have a look at this design company from Northern Ireland: First4Studio Web Solutions - Ireland's leading web design and web developement company, web design ireland, web development ireland, ecommerce websites ireland, website design ireland, website development ireland

And now look at the portfolio of this Russian company:
Webdesign showcase

I wonder if their clients know the work is being farmed out to Russia! It wouldn't be difficult for a client to find this out if they did a linkin search, they'd find both companies claiming them in their portfolio. Hmmm

No, I think they hired the russian company...

Russian Company Portfolio:
Webdesign showcase

Irish Company Portfolio:
The First4 Studio

and the Irish company's website appears in the Russian company portfolio too as shown above. I did a quick inlink search for this fishing website and both companies show up, linking them from their portfolios:

https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.co...&bwmf=a&bwms=p

I understand the business logic to outsourcing the work to Russia. I got an email from this Russian company this morning, offering a partnership. Their rates are €15 per hour. I'd love if my costs were cut by 75% or more in some cases. However, should the client be aware of the outsourcing to Russia? With this kind of set up, any tom, dick or harry could set up a web design company and start selling websites here, and outsource all the work to these guys. Probably make a tidy profit but could this create more problems in the web design industry or am I just talking b****x? I know this has been around for years with outsourcing to India so I just wanted to get current views on it!

Cheers!

there is nothing wrong with outsourcing small projects or part-projects.
The biggest problem is updating or making modifications to the script yourself based on the client requests.
Everyone has his own way of doing things and trying to figure out what the other did could take a lot of time.
I did outsource myself in the past small things that weren't that important of how and when but a large project that I had and have to look after in future, I prefer to do the work.

Don't see anything wrong with it.

Client should always be informed. There are potential copyright and ownership issues there.

I sometimes do work for a guy in Mullingar and he passes it off as his own to the client. I really don't mind because I don't have to deal with the client but get paid the same as if I did. The only downside is I can't put it in my portfolio and I waive any copyright but that's not too big a deal for me.

I think outsourcing's great!

or (as Jenny says) the issue can be negated by a getting copyright waive etc.
It probably matters for web designers more so than tech folks. Is that a fair comment? IE generally a designer will win a commission based on their style or previous work...

I agree. They should have waived copyright and been a bit smarter about their business approach. I also think that the idea of publicy announcing this on a forum is unfair.

Default out sourcing

I not gone on the idea of out sourcing.... A person i know said that he had lots of companies in dubai wanting web sites. And he was going to get me just to do a design and a main template and then get pakistans to fill in all the stuff like txs and all that for the cheap....

So it would save time and money but i not sure about it really
