Default Website Contant From Clients

Hi

Not sure if any of you have experienced this, I am sure you have.

Waitng for content from clients is holding up my projects and it has
a big impact on my cash flow. could be weeks before I receive anything
after designing drafts ect.

Would any of you guys have any tips for me on how to resolve this

Keeping in mind I do not want to frighten my clients off.

Thanks
CA

I don't fully understand. Your clients (customers?) send you content which you use to complete projects for them? For example, they send you a technical specification and you develop a website for them?

Hi, I used to have the same problem. What I do now is get a deposit of about 40% up front before starting work. This usually makes them more proactive as they want to see the site finished themselves after having already spent money on it. If you are still waiting for content send them an email stating what you require and that you need it within the week too fit them into your schedule. After this I would invoice them for the balance to complete the website.

Another way to speed things up is to hire a writer to go in and interview them, they then go away and generate the content.

I have a couple of people I have used in the past who have done some great work, PM me if you need details

depends on the client.

Some clients are organised or have in-house staff who can generate the content quickly
Others will insist on doing it themselves
Others will be delighted to have the burden lifted from their shoulders.

Personally I would prefer all clients to use a professional writer as their is nothing worse than a lovely site let down by dodgy content.

Like those ones where they insist on putting up really awful photos of their management team!

I actually don't mind those photos, as long as everyone is suited up and they use a professional photographer. Its the ones where they have just turfed everyone outside the door and someone has used their camera phone that wind me up!

I solved this problem a few years ago - you spec out deliverables in your Project Initiation Document and you put a caveat in the contract that says that if the client fails to deliver x, y or z on time then they pay for the extra days that it takes them to get stuff to you. This kind of client behaviour causes serious problems with cash flow as you say... as well as scuppering other client projects. Don't tolerate it.
