Default Client problems

Hi....

Bit of a predicament..... I done work for a client back a few months ago.. It was a joint project between two people. Everything was fine. I done the work. I got paid by one side of the party in question but they paid me in full..

Then relations went sour with the two of them and had a falling out. So the person who paid me asked me to take the other person of the site. Which i did as it was him who paid me not the other person.

Ok all is fine there at the moment. Now the person who paid me wants his other half of the money of the other person so he wants me to say that it was him who gave me all the money and not the other person so he can treaten her through solicitors which he has told the other person he was going to do.

Now the other person is turning around blaming me that it was my fault and i should never have taken her off the site......

I dont really know much else of what is going on but what should i do.... Cause she could easily tell people that i am no good which would give me bad press. Which is not a good thing considering i work in a town of 1000 people

Were there any contracts signed at the start of the project? If not, you don't have to do/not do anything. Did you send out an invoice for the work done? If not, you don't have to give any money back. Was this a nixer?

No there was no contract signed....

I did send out an invoice.....

When i finished the project the girl acted very funny and wouldnt answer the phone, nearly avoiding me. But it was her that i went through from the start but when it came ot the moeny part she wouldnt talk. So i contacted the other person. and he gave me the moeny so it was him i gave the invoice to even though both there names are on the invoice.

So when he said take her name down i did cause it was him who gave me the moeny not her

What is a nixer?????

A nixer... basically an odd job with no contracts or anything legally binding.

I'm no solicitor but I very much doubt that you'll have to give back any money. Would it not just be worth putting reference to her back on the site and letting them squabble amongst themselves?

Oh right..... Best start making contracts then. I never do..

I could but now she dont want to be on it now cause of the row they had. But the guy i still do little bits of work here and there so dont really want to leave on bad terms there.

I dont think i will have to give back any money. I just more worried that she will bad mouth me. Which she already said to the guy that this was my fault... Even though i dont know how.

Bad reptutation is what i am more worried about. Do you think i should ring the girl and explain my side to her. So she wont go bad mouthing me....

The more i think bout it the more it reminds me of stupid 14 year old behavour.......

First off I don't think your getting the full story, people are never upfront are only tell you what you need to know,

I won't worry about bad reputation too much if you didn't warrant it, I sure the partnership fall out would be of more interest to the locals.

Listen to both sides and see who's paying for the hosting because they can move the files if they own the site.

I would'ent loose any sleep over it, and tell them you presummed that the person who paid for the site was the owner.

joint project between two people .. are there companies involved (business name) or just individuals ?

If there's a business of some sort its quite simple and you say you deal with the owner of the business ?

Its a nasty situation ... potentially tell your client you don't really want to get involved as its making you feel uncomfortable and ask them to sort it out amongst themselves ?

(though its easier said than done)

god it feels like an agony aunts page
