Anyone got any ideas on how to hide from hit couters without using a proxy!

how is the hit counter included ?

disabling javascript usually works, unless of course the hit counter isn't made from javascript...

I dont know,

hit counters in general its just a thought i had when a customer was shocked when i explained to him that you can see where they are what they where looking for etc..

ah, well then javascript is the only one that you can hide from really, by just disabling it, you are preventing it from being called up by the browser.

with all the rest, to my knowledge, as soon as you call the page, you are automatically leaving your footprint on the server. whether the webmaster decides to log the information about IP address, etc or not, is his/her own decision.

sorry I guess my mind said hit counter ... the little number displayed on pages in olden days telling people ... 24 people have visited the site.

Depending on how you want to do it and which stats tracking you're using you can disable certain IPs disable all loads of javascript for the google analytics site and so on.
