I met the organisers at the event the other night and they expressed an interest in meeting with me to discuss matters. I don't think they were overly happy with the industry's perception of the awards and may be interested in taking steps to improve it for next year.

Well at least that's something positive.

I think some transparency in their dealings would be a good first step.

An explicit definition of what 'excellence' is would also help.

Michele... you got your pics back yet? You didn't appear in any of mine but spotted you in the "official" ones!! I put a few up on my blog but had to keep a good few back because some of the people in them might not appreciate them floating around!!! I'll tell you again sometime!!

On another note... I found where Richard got the wrong address for Raymond Potterton. It was on the ENN site ( ElectricNews.net:News:RTE snares three Golden Spiders. I'd say people are looking up In Memory of Raymond Potter and saying "how did that site win a golden spider!!!!" Following on from other posts in this thread... that's probably being said about actual winners.

Good news there Michele. Would be interested to hear the minutes from that meeting and also interested in hearing the scoring methods!

I'm not in the country at the moment but I will go about getting the scoring breakdown when I get home. I don't know if they'll be forthcoming but it's worth a try - particularly seeing as it cost me good money to enter.

Um... I always thought the Golden Spiders was a pay-to-win kind of thing? Are the results actually independent?

Hmm.. that's a controversial one there dude.
Legally and officially it is a pay-to-enter contest with the judges selected from different areas.
However since it is a pay-to-play contest and some of the sponsors actually won other categories it does beg into question where the results come from.
