It's also slightly coincidental that not all the shortlisters actually fork out 1800 Europes for a table, yet 99% of the time the winner is present on the night. Essentially, if you make it to the shortlist and you REALLY want the award, you must purchase a table at the event. Their PR people will ensure you do pay for your award by hounding you on the phone. No payment for dinner table... no award (except in a few occasions in the awards history)

Short answer - yes. It is a paid for award - arbitrary to a point and with agenda to a point.

I have won three - two for archiseek and one for p45 and never paid any money - not for entry fees (always free category) or tables

Default who really cares

No matter what you say , to get the award is a good thing for your firm. I have not yet seen some one who has won the award and refused it on moral standards grounds.

Eh, yeah. That's the problem. It's good for firms/businesses. i.e. it awards poor Web design resulting in the promotion and perpetuation of more poor Web design. No matter what you say, it awards poor Web design. What's good about that? What's your point if you don't mind me asking? As a Web professional, this is a very bad thing.

LOL, he's off!

The Menace. I'm thinking about running a campaign using any means necessary to get you to win an award this year. If it is successful, will you vent ON STAGE at the awards?

I wouldn't accept one. Nor would I enter any of my work into them again seeing as they're a proven farce beyond any shadow of doubt. As for saying I'm "off" and the patronising wink; suffice to say that you're not obliged to agree with me. If you think the Golden Spiders are a benchmark of quality then you're entitled to.
