| Competition is good. And if you think there's a browser war now, then you obviously missed out on the first one

Sometimes it's not, I subscribe to Sky Sports and a couple of years ago they controled most of the large sporting events and I paid my subscription and was happy. But then the EU decided that it was wrong for Sky to control most of these sports events and Sentanta was introduced to the market. Now I still pay the same sub (maybe more to Sky) but I am now only getting 1/2 the sports events as before and If I want them all again I'll have to take out an extra sub to Setanta sports. So not all competition is good

thats hardly competitions fault though is it? that's down to regulation. You can argue that now, because of setanta, I can subscribe for the heineken cup, and then unsubscribe when it's over, rather than pay for a 12 mth contract with sky

I'm hoping that any new browser war will be at the expense of browser vendors with all the browsers adhering to standards and further improvements being made across the board (consistent form control rendering, etc). Basically, all browsers should render sites the very same with the only differentiator being the browser's design and functionality/feature set. I don't care how many browsers there are out there... as long as I don't have to cater for the ones that make a complete ****** of my mark-up. Other than that, they can have their war!

I agree with most of the replies, the more browsers the better as this will only force vendors to continually improve their product. However, I do understand exactly where you are coming from... I too am about to go live on a site that works fine in every browser, Mac and PC, except IE 6. I know I will probably get slated for this but I am seriously considering not adapting my code at all. I'm sick of having to go back and spend hours fixing something that isn't broken in the first place. The more developers bend over and accommodate IE6, the longer it will hang around.
