Don't know if this is helpful to anyone. I was looking into browser usage across some sites I manage. The stats are based on 15 sites of various sizes, largest 40,000+ visitors to smallest 600 visitors a month. The stats are from October. Total number of visitors 95,000+ across the 15 sites. Breakdown of browsers: IE: 76.89% FF: 17.12% Safari: 4.22% Chrome: 0.91% Opera: 0.49% Rest: 0.37% Breakdown of IE versions as % of overall IE users: IE8: 0.6% IE7: 69.31% IE6: 29.79% IE5: 0.3% Breakdown of FF versions as % of overall FF users: FF3: 75.89% FF2 : 23.13% FF1.5: 0.84% FF1: 0.14%

Any demographics on these users?

They would be an average cross section of a local community, largely be made up of a non-technical audience. The sites are informational based rather than forums, blogs etc. Small sites running local news, events and community based announcements. The larger sites would be a national versions of the small sites. Age groups vary across the sites from kids to 80/90 year olds, but from what data I have gathered in the form of direct feedback the bulk would be 40-60 year olds. I would also infer that the 20-39 year olds are not a large demographic in these stats. I don't have an exact geographic breakdown on these figures but roughly speaking: 70% Ireland 10% England 10% USA 10% Rest of the World Last edited by dave; 24-11-2008 at 08:32 PM..

I didn't pull stats this time for screen sizes, I did a quick review a couple of weeks ago, and very few were using 800x600. Any sites I work on I usually go for 960px as standard. One other interesting stat that may be of use. I ran a live streaming site up until recently, I changed over from streaming wmv to flash. One worry I had was not everyone was using the latest version of flash which was required for h.264 streaming. At the time the site had 10,000+ unique users a month I thought there would be plenty of issues and support requests to upgrade, but using swfobject - Google Code 98% had upgraded to the latest version of flash in a couple of days. It was one of least painful things I have ever done on the web
