Thread: Link Exchange - Advice Please

So as we all know one of the more important aspects of seo is that the more inbound links you have the better. I’m going to attempt to get some more links to my site by exchanging links with other sites in the same industry as my own. I have in the past got a good few emails from fellow webmasters asking to exchange links. Usually they are spammy from totally unrelated businesses or websites so I was not interested.



I have a links page on the site which i plan to fill with proper useful links that my visitors may be interested in. I'm hoping to write to the webmasters of these sites and ask if they would in turn link back to me. There is little or no conflict of interest, we would be complimentary to most of these businesses/sites.

So I’m looking for advice on the type of email I should send. Do you guys do this at all?

I never ever ask for links directly

As I understand it Google puts more stock in fresh (targeted) content than links. Instead of writing one email a day to several sites, you might be better off writing one quality article for your site (blog page etc) that Google will pick up on.

If that doesn't fit well with you, you could try:

Can we do a reciprocal link? as you can see, my site x is not dissimilar to your own.

Although you have to ask yourself what is in it for them if your site is relatively unknown?

This is the simplest way to do it and be sure that your site is as good as the one which you want to get a reciprocal link from..

Never done it with business site - but I do it all the time with travel sites and it works well and many of them end up being great links.
