Default Regulatory info for websites from Jan '07

Not sure where this goes so feel free to move if necessary

Saw this over on AAM and thought it might be worth posting...

Quote:
Pinched from CRO E-zine:

"** CHANGES TO PUBLICATION/DISCLOSURE REQUIREMENTS **

With effect from 1 January 2007 the information required to be
specified on paper company letters and order forms will be extended
to electronic form.

In addition every company that has a website will be required to
display on its homepage those same particulars or identify on its
homepage and make readily accessible a webpage on which the
particulars appear.

The particulars are as follows:

(a) that the company is registered in Ireland and the number with
which it is registered;
(b) the address of the registered office;
(c) in the case of a company exempt from the obligation to use
the word "limited" or "teoranta" as part of its name, the fact that
it is a limited company;
(d) in the case of a company that is being wound up, the fact
that it is being wound up.
(e) where there is reference to the share capital of the company,
the reference shall be to the capital that is subscribed and paid up.

Information Leaflet No. 7 "Disclosure And Publication Requirements
In Relation To Companies And Business Names" will be revised
accordingly and will be available at
http://www.cro.ie/template_generic.a...el4=0&Level5=0 "
So, seems we need to create an extra page or some kind of link to the companies registered details from the new year. Or just place them on the homepage somewhere!

Most of us have most of that info on our sites already... it's just a matter of making it more explicit

Out of interest, what happens if you don't follow these rules?

I believe they have hired people to manually check all Irish business .ie websites. Those who use .coms will be effected differently. I heard something like 25 million will be spent on checking. Another 80 Mil on enforcing. (Task Force 1)

Then round 2 will concentrate on the .com addresses and enforcing that. It will be a little tougher, but they will spend more money on it.

Sure, it's probably best practive anyway, but I don't think I've put it on many of the sites I've done so far

This would be the area I'd be concerned about.

Hmm, must contact a few clients and let them know about this!

You must be joking. What's the benefit of it all?

looks like a bit of extra cash for us web developers, then.

I wonder, though, as Georgie asked - what happens if people are just not interested in adding those numbers to their sites? will the CRO send the boys around?

I wonder which asshole consultancy got the contract to advise them.

In case anyone wasn't aware, my post was actually a joke.

Yea, there is no way they can possibly enforce this although we can assume that someone will tell them that they can and probably pitch for the job.

Well German websites have the impressum so it would not be too far wide of the mark.

I would be able to do it better than any consultancy in existence. That's why I am deeply cynical about these asshole consultancies who claim to be able to do it. It is like the whole unbreakable code thing all over again - people make a joke that some code or system is unbreakable and I go off and break it.
