Default Google Axes SOAP API

I read recently that Google has ceased support and new signup for their search API. Instead they are supporting their new "AJAX" API which is designed for running in-site queries remotely and is not designed for real apps.

I'm really disappointed and puzzled by Google's decision.
Many applications and tools such as DigitalPoint's keyword tracker and other SEO tools RELY on the user having an API key. Google has effectively shut these services down until they find another way.

For shame Google.

From what I've gathered existing users aren't being shut out. They simply won't allow any new users.

Yes, but DigitalPoint will also have to deprecate their tool because they will only be able to support current users.

Yes, very annoying. Fortunately, Yahoo and MSN still have search APIs.
