Basic DHTML

Hello.

I'm using a litle piece of basic DHTML

<SPAN ONCLICK="outerHTML='Link 1 | Link 2'">Academic Links</SPAN>

I would like Link 1 and Link 2, to be links, which open in a new browser window - is there any easy way to do this?

Um, I never really got it working, but from my 'research' of trying to do the exact same thing, it was not possible using HTML, but it was to use javascript. When I eventually got it working in IE6, firefox would refuse to take anything but one hyperlink and when IE7 came along as a beta, it was crashing the browser.
