worked on live site & old pages being found

Hi, i'm not sure if i'm in the correct section...

I've recently being working on a live site. When doing a search for the term homepainting.ie in google lots of the old pages/urls are being found (mostly not viewing correctly & 404 pages).

Any suggestions to remove/stop this? OR is it just the case that they will filter out once my new completed pages are fully indexed by Google?

for example > http://homepainting.ie/index.php/hello-world/

Advise or experience with this would be great, thanks.

If there's a similar page in the new setup, you might want to consider redirecting some of them there rather than just everything to the homepage?

AS you have already said - in a roundabout way - you do not want to delete or loose these pages as they are being found by the search engines.
