page rank

Am I right in assuming that attempting to catch a dropped domain with any half decent traffic/page rank is next to impossible now a days? What with domain tasting and registrars offering domains for auction instead of releasing them, the good days are over?

I have a domain that was very well placed in google for specific search terms. I've since parked it with a parking company and replaced the content with a parked page. Does google take this into account and decrease the page rank etc.. for parked domains?
